And finally it was time for the Grand Finale – a fitting and flirting end to the five fabulous days (and nights) of Lakmé Fashion Week Winter/Festive 2010.
Darling designer Malini Ramani was the chosen one to showcase the theme for the season – the Gypsy Collection. Inspired by her personal journeys through different parts of the world, the collection was a celebration of colours and textures.

Said Malini, “True to my signature style, the clothes showcased were vibrant, feminine and bohemian.” In the same vein, make-up expert Clint Fernandes added, “The bold exotic looks, seen on the catwalk — suited for the modern Indian woman whilst retaining global beauty trends — were created with a product range that has vibrant colours with earthy undertones in rich, velvety textures. This added to the glamour and free spiritedness of the garments from the Gypsy Collection, co-created by the Lakmé make-up artists and the grand finale designer.”
It all started with an audio-visual revealing Malini’s state of mind that reflected in her classy clothes. It was the Mystery, Bliss, Cosmic and Nirvana of life which were the titles of the four sections that featured exotic, tribal, gypsy creations from various parts of the world. The Mystery unfolded with exotic black long creations with shimmering mirror and shell embroidery, halter sarongs, waistcoats, Jodhpur pants, mini-rompers, jersey gowns, dhoti jumpers, quilted skinny pants, black-and-white tasselled smocks with interesting batik work.
Then it was time to get into a state of Bliss with a mélange of hues like yellow, red, orange, black, brown and green stripes and prints with batik for beach tubes, minis, draped printed vests, slim slinky gowns, an abundance of placement prints on cuffs, yoke and front and a sensational red-printed mini with glitter. The journey continued into the Cosmic mode with diagonal one-shoulder sleeve minis with fabulous feather, shell and coin embellishments. Kaftans crossed over with wide embellished bands and the grand one-sleeve batwing outfit was a superb tribal vision. Finally, it was time to reach Nirvana in black and red with mirror work tops, tasselled skirts, jersey paneled maxis and embroidered bodices that caught your eye.

The sections were interspersed by some amazing acrobatic acts that left the packed house spellbound. And the final entry was, naturally, reserved for the glam faces of Lakmé: Indrani Dasgupta, Lisa Haydon, Amrit Maghera and Shraddha Kapoor — all dressed to thrill in black-and-red creations from the Nirvana line with intricate shells, mirrors, coins and tassel work.
